In the 1990’s all telephone calls and radio traffic were hand written on legal pads and radio logs. With new technology, Dawson County 911 has progressed to the use of computer systems. January 1st, 1999, Dawson County 911 went to the use of a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. All information received by telephone and radio are logged in the CAD system as well as recorded on CD, by a high tech recorder system.

When a new employee is in the training process, he/she uses a training simulator called the 911-Starz Simulator. This system allows the trainee to receive 911 calls and dispatch calls before actually handling an actual call from the public.

All employees are required to use the LETN (Law Enforcement Training Network) computer. This is a training computer that allows the employees to take a pre-test, watch a video, and post-test. The employee receives P.O.S.T. credit hours for the in-house training.
