Inmate Accounts/Commissary

Disappeared Line

Return to home page

All monies (including cash, money order, and/or certified check) in an inmate’s possession at the time of booking will be credited to the inmate’s commissary account. A receipt documenting the money credited to the inmate’s commissary account will be provided to the inmate.

Inmates use commissary accounts to purchase beverages and snacks while detained in the Dawson County Detention Center. Only items purchased from the commissary will be allowed in the housing area. All purchases are deducted from the inmate’s commissary account, which is maintained by the Detention Center, provided the inmate has sufficient funds at the time the order is placed. Commissary items from other facilities will not be accepted into the Dawson County Detention Center.

To qualify for a welfare package, an inmate must be detained within the Dawson County Detention Center for a period of thirty (30) days without money on his or her commissary account. To apply for a welfare package, an inmate must complete and submit an Inmate Request Form indicating need.

If an inmate places a commissary order and does not receive the items before release or transfer, the inmate or a family member will have ten days to pick up the commissary. If the order is not picked up within ten (10) days, the purchase will be disbursed to the indigent.

Individuals may elect to add money to an inmate’s commissary account. To ensure credit to an inmate’s account for the next commissary purchase, all monies must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. Additionally, no personal checks will be accepted from any person wishing to deposit money into an inmate’s account. Any person wishing to deposit money or certified check into an inmate’s account may do so by:

Bringing the money or certified check to the Detention Center on the inmate’s visitation day

Deposit money via the kiosk located in the Law Enforcement Center lobby

Mail money order or certified check to the Detention Center located at 19 Tucker Avenue, Dawsonville, GA 30534
