K9 Unit

The tracking ability of our canines provides a valuable resource, not only for the apprehension of fleeing criminals, but greatly assists public safety agencies in locating lost/missing persons or children.  Essentially, every school in our region has been searched during safe school searches at the request of participating agencies.

Our conviction rate for canine related activities is nearly 100%. Our handlers have been challenged in court, along with their training records, deployment records and certifications. We stand firm in our program and are proud of our success. The Patrol Division has two narcotics detection/ tracking teams and one narcotics detection/ tracking and patrol work team.

Dolph is a eight year-old Belgian Malinois that specializes in narcotics detection.

Hurricane Mike, a four year old Bloodhound that was donated to the Sheriff's Office by the Kody Snodgrass Memorial Foundation. When the search is for a missing person, a bloodhound and its handler may be the single most important resource for law enforcement. When a child is missing, no stone should be left unturned in their efforts of location, and trained bloodhounds have been used for centuries for this very purpose.
