Normally, the Investigator will maintain contact with you throughout the investigation. You can make telephone contact with the investigator or through e-mail. Once your case is cleared by arrest, the case will be turned over to the District Attorney’s office. At this point the DA determines the speed at which it goes to trial. However, your investigator may have some information concerning its status.

The Citizens of Dawson County have experienced a rapid growth in the community and with growth your sheriff’s office has been able to reduce the number of crimes per capita. Even though the crime rates have dropped, we are experiencing an increase in the number of reported cases. The Criminal Investigations Division averages 130 cases assigned to the six investigators per month. Your Criminal Investigations Division has been able to maintain an above average clearance rate for the reported crimes. Most recent figures indicate that the CID clears almost 60 % of all reported crimes. This is above the state and national average. The arrest versus reported crime rate for the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office CID is 19%. This too, is above the national average and in line with most metro area agencies, yet higher than most agencies of our size. On the next page you can determine your case status by finding your case number. If your case does not show a cleared status, you can be assured it is still active. |
