Captain
Brandy Branson The Patrol Division of the Dawson County Sheriff's Office, under the command of Major Greg Rowan, is comprised of seven units, including the Uniform Patrol Unit, Traffic Enforcement Unit, Support Unit, Marine Patrol Unit, School Resource Officer Program, Canine Program and Reserve Officer Program. The Patrol Division is the most visible division of the Sheriff's Office and often makes the first contact with Dawson County residents. Each unit concentrates on the accomplishment of its primary mission; to maintain continuous patrol coverage throughout Dawson County in order to respond to emergency and non-emergency situations, to provide general public assistance and to render community problem-solving services. Our officers make a proactive effort to identify and prevent incidents rather than just reacting to them. They are sensitive to concerns of citizens and address those concerns that are communicated or observed in an effort to improve quality of life issues. Patrol Division personnel must attend at least 20 hours of training per year to maintain their certification. Most of our deputies receive twice the amount of training required. Uniform Patrol Unit The Patrol Unit is comprised of 22 P.O.S.T. certified, dedicated men and women that are prepared to serve the Dawson County public 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Patrol Unit responds to emergency calls for service, enforces the state laws and conducts crime prevention patrols. Dawson County is divided into five zones.
Deputies are assigned to work all zones within the county to ensure familiarity with all geographical areas. Each deputy is assigned to one zone for a duration of 12 hours. Each shift is comprised of one sergeant, who is responsible for the shift, one corporal and three deputies. The corporal is to serve as the shift supervisor in the absence of the sergeant. They also serve as the shift training officer with responsibilities to train new members of the unit. Traffic Enforcement Unit The Traffic Enforcement Unit of Dawson County consists of highly skilled and focused law enforcement officers whom aggressively concentrate control efforts on drivers who threaten the lives, safety and property of others. These deputies are on-duty during peak traffic times. They are also available to assist other deputies with priority calls if the need arises. The main objective of the Traffic Enforcement Unit is to reduce fatalities, personal injuries and property damage resulting from traffic crashes. Support Unit The Support Unit, including Animal Control and Code Enforcement, is currently supervised and administered by the Patrol Division. This unit, managed by Lt. Brandon Branson, consists of dedicated, but overworked personnel that perform basic animal control functions, alcohol pouring permit issuance, and enforcing the codes and ordinances of the county. These may include illegal/ solid waste violations and soil erosion issues. Reserve Officer Program The Reserve Officer Program consists of former full-time employees of the Dawson County Sheriff's Office that are certified Deputy Sheriffs who donate their time to assist the Sheriff's Office with special events that require more manpower. This unit uses its resources and talents to further charitable causes which benefit the citizens of Dawson County and devotes many hours of personal service toward the goal of enhancing the public image of the Dawson County Sheriff's Office. The Reserve Officer Program operates as a non-profit organization. No proceeds of any kind are paid to any member for services rendered.
