TRAINING

The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office currently provides training to its employees and citizens of Dawson County.

Each certified law enforcement officer is required to have 20 hours of POST credit training during the year beginning January of each year through December of that same year.

Credit for hours can be received by attending in-service classes provided by the three POST certified instructors that currently are employed by the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office.

However, a multitude of classes are offered through the Georgia Law Enforcement Academies located around the state.

Dawson County Deputies have amassed over four thousand hours of training combined since January 2001. Even when deputies are gone from Dawson County to attend this training, the Sheriff’s Office maintains the same quality of law enforcement it’s citizens deserve.

All command officers (Lieutenant and above) are trained in management. Another training goal is to have every supervisor attend and graduate from the three levels of supervision training.

Additional training obtained by your deputies will greatly enhance the service provided to the citizens of Dawson County.

This includes programs such as CHAMPS, the Junior Law Enforcement Academy and the Citizens Police Academy.

If you or your business or group wishes to have training, please contact Lieutenant Tony Wooten, (wooten@dawsoncountysheriff.org).
